"The Mayan Collection 2012"

2012 is officially the year of the Maya. Today, the Mayan calendar myth is already in the news, but next year this will be continuous. Like the milenium story with Y2K, this story is will be getting just as much attention.

The Mayan Civilization, started around 2000 years ago in eastern Mexico and Guatemala, was famous for her accurate astronomical observations. According to the Mayan calculations, the solar system will on December 21, 2012 be in line with Hunab K'u, the center of the Milky Way. The earth and the sun will be in alignment with each other in the center of the galaxy. This date marks "the end of the calendar and the great cycle of thirteen so-called baktuns and then the earth starts the period of the Fifth Sun".

The end of time does not mean that the earth explodes and disappears into a black hole, but a long period is concluded and a next period begins at a higher level. The Mayans describe Dec. 21, 2012 as a transition to a new, more conscious world. A world of change, rebirth and harmony, in which we get closer to nature and to a more respectful use of our natural resources.

In 2012 in Mexico Trade Center troduces its Pre-Columbian collection of statues, vases and bowls from the era of the Mayas. The designs are based on the works as they are exhibided in the Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.

Trendwatcher Jacco La Gasse (Bruges, Belgium) sees the making of Mayan statues by descendants of the ancient Indian population in Mexico as follows: "The local people in Mexico are able to support their families and provide a dignified means. To me it seems that the circle the Maya is round again. It is the start of a new beginning!"
